The city of Penang
Widely known as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang is one of Asia's most famous islands. It was founded by Sir Francis Light in 1786. Under the British colonial rule for almost one hundred years, Penang has managed to cultivate a harmonious blend of the East and West where a wide range of cultures live in harmony.
Penang, Silicon Island of the East, is also home to many of the world's multinationals and the island has four main industrial zones with more than 700 factories. Since 1985, the island has been connected to the mainland by the Penang Bridge, one of the longest bridges in the world.
