About Universiti Monash Malaysia
Monash University Malaysia is a full-fledged campus of one of
Australia’s top universities, offering world-class education and
research. Established in 1998, it is the first foreign university campus
in Malaysia and operates in partnership with the Sunway Group. In 2013,
the campus population consists of 5,600 students and 691 staff members,
with strong growth planned for the future. The campus benefits from a
culturally diverse student population, with almost one third of its
students coming from over 80 countries.
The six Schools of Monash University Malaysia offer a comprehensive range of courses from bachelor to doctoral level, designed to prepare students to be excellent scholars and professionals in their chosen fields. Students are taught by highly qualified academic staff from across the world and the same rigorous standards are applied at the campus as at other Monash campuses. As a globally-connected university, students can take advantage of international mobility schemes as part of their course, including time in Australia. Within an environment that values research and inquiry, we encourage our students and academics to contribute ideas, create impact and change lives.
Monash University Malaysia has established strong links with industry and government – an area which will see further development. Student learning is therefore strengthened with the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges. It is pleasing to see so many of our alumni already taking on leadership roles in industry and government within Malaysia and internationally.
The campus is committed to making a positive impact on society and improving the human condition. To this end, the campus has established the Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway (BRIMS) and jointly with Monash University, Australia established a multidisciplinary health and demographic surveillance site, the South East Asian Community Observatory (SEACO).
BRIMS is an internationally recognised neuroscience research institute in the region that is undertaking path-breaking research on neurological diseases and identifying drug targets using natural plants that are indigenous to the region. SEACO follows a community of 35,000 people in Johor and will support world-class research in health and well-being. Both BRIMS and SEACO have already attracted collaborations from the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.
Building on the successes of BRIMS and SEACO, the campus is establishing four additional multi-disciplinary research platforms that enable scientists in the region to work on global challenges in the following key areas: Tropical Medicine and Biology; Advanced Engineering; Halal Ecosystem; and Social and Economic Transformation in Asia. Researchers at Monash University Malaysia are already conducting several large-scale projects that are in line with national and international priorities, including enhancing socioeconomic development in the region and in the developing world.
In addition to a vibrant campus experience with excellent catering facilities, food outlets, gymnasium and outdoor swimming pool, the Sunway township in which the campus is situated offers numerous shopping and leisure opportunities within walking distance. Students can also take advantage of many clubs and societies.
Monash University Malaysia is in a unique position to offer the very best in higher education that is possible within Malaysia and the region. It is an exciting place to work or study and embraces and supports its staff and students as a community of scholars. We hope you will visit, study or work with us soon!
